A lot of fun, requires some patience. Magnifying glass may help.

Starting a new hobby

I wanted to repair a pocket watch, but I was completely unfamiliar with the process so I purchased a Rotate watch kit as a starting point. A couple of weeks later I had dissembled and reassembled the watch, learning to troubleshoot along the way, and had an unbelievably satisfying feeling when I dropped the balance into place and the movement started to tick, even before the balance cock was secured.

Since then I have dissassembed, troubleshot, and reassembled two 1899 model Waltham pocket watches and an Omega pocket watch.

The kit prepared me for watch repair way way beyond my expectations.

A note on customer service: turning first screw to remove that first piece of a watch can be daunting. In this case, removing the balance within its fragile hairspring. When I did it, I managed to murder the hairspring in the process. I photographed the mayhem and sent it to the Rotate folks. They immediately emailed back, sympathized with the event and sent me a new balance assembly. So they really have your back. I just wish they carried parts for 100+ year old pocket watches....
